As I sit in a cozy coffee shop in my little hometown of Orillia, ON during a snow storm I can’t help but think of who will be seeing this, where you live, what the weather is like and if it’s somewhere warm.… how much I want to be there! It has been a long, snow-filled winter and I can’t wait for the spring. March 1st is a significant day for us Canadians.. February, one of the toughest months of the year is officially over and we can finally begin to think of warmer, happier thoughts. This year is a little different for me though, March 1st means our website has officially launched AND we are only a month away from GSLS registration opening!!

When Stu, our fearless leader and Summit Chair first told me of this opportunity I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face while talking about it with friends, family and colleagues. I was so excited for what was to come. Since then I have gone through many more emotions that come with planning an event on this scale, but never once have I have I doubted Stu’s vision and dream; this will be history in the making. In an ever-changing, tough world, our future leaders will have the opportunity to begin to change the conversation and work to create positive impacts on schools, communities, cities and countries.

I have been fortunate enough to explore North America, Europe and Asia with some of my very best friends. I have recently returned from exploring Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia for two months. I love nothing more than travelling, meeting new friends and making connections. I knew when I set off on my first backpacking experience that I would see amazing things and experience different cultures, but I didn’t realize the biggest impact that travelling would have on me, the incredible people that I met.

One of my biggest hopes is that when you (students, advisors, speakers, etc.) leave GSLS you will feel the same. At GSLS, you will have the opportunity to make real, valuable connections and work together to create a positive change in global leadership! As so famously quoted by Helen Keller, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”

We have spent countless hours putting together content and working with Redding Designs Inc. I just wanted to give a shoutout to the team at Redding for their amazing work and completely seeing my vision (which couldn’t always have been easy) to get this site ready for you. As Conference Coordinator I am so proud to welcome you to our incredible Global Student Leadership Summit website. Welcome students, parents, educators, sponsors, speakers, friends, family to our GSLS family.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are committed to continuous learning and improvement, so we welcome your feedback as we continue to build this site!

Thank you for following along and for your continued support!

In leadership,
Kara Gunnarson
